Arsis walked out of his tent as the afternoon reached its peak; he was tall (for a human) with tanned skin and brown hair. He wore his usual set of robes, and he had a calm demeanor about him despite being a mercenary. They had spent a week guarding a group of archeologist at the ancient battlefield of Keji. It was a week of the easiest pay they could make, “nothing to worry about out here except for ghosts…”
The archeologist and the group of mercs had set up a camp at the battlefield. While the archeologist were busy doing their work Arsis and the rest of the mercs fought boredom each day by taking turns on guard duty and doing other simple tasks. As he walked through the camp he kept his eyes peeled searching for one of the scholars in charge. He was going to go see how much longer the scholars wanted to stay there, personally he was getting bored with the job; sure it offered him plenty of time to train and meditate but even he could run out of patience. Even as he searched he kept his eyes peeled for Sanya too, he suspected she was up to no good as usual, “maybe I should take her out with me for a patrol…” the thought about spending quality time with her did sound nice, it was hard to have that happen in a camp full of people. Despite the long assignment it was often Sanya who could make jobs like this one enjoyable. Arsis paused outside one of the tents as he thought he heard her voice. He paused outside to see if he could hear what was happening before walking in.

Sanya's voice was whiny, and rather more high pitched than usual as she was sprawled out on the ground, watching the feet of an archeologist stumbling around the room. The man was trying to ignore her constant complaining but she just wouldn't let up. Her red hair was lighter, with the amount of dirt in it, and her skin was covered with a thin layer of dust from her insistance of laying on the ground. That, of course, didn't bother her. They were arguing about how much longer this particular job would take. Sanya with a much shorter attention span had found the whole experience extremely boring within the first few days. "How about now? Today..?" "No." "Don't you have children to get back to?" "No." "... A life?" "No." The conversation was going absolutely nowhere, and perhaps Sanya realised that, for she made an irritated sound and rolled over to get up. "Eh? Arsis?" On her way up, she thought she saw him outside the doorway. The archeologist looked pleased at the distraction, and escaped by forcing his way through a rip in the side of the tent.

As he pulled back the tent opening he saw Sanya lying on the ground covered in dirt. A smile grew on his face as he spotted her, although dirty she still looked attractive, making the dust seem inviting. He casually walked over and nodded to a few of the archeologist before pausing in front of Sanya, he grinned, “I see you beat me to the punch here… lets get out of these guy’s hair and go for a patrol before it gets dark… it’ll be a nice change of pace instead of sitting around here…” He still wanted to talk to the archeologist but he’d much rather spend his time with Sanya. “What do you say? It’ll be fun.” As he spoke he reached out and stroked some of the dust out of her hair, it was soft between his fingers and widened his smile. To anyone who would see them it was obvious they shared a history.

Although always pleased to see Arsis, she couldn't help but blame him for the disappearance of her 'friend'. Brushing some of the sand off her front, she shrugged her shoulders, mumbling a response. "Anything other than sitting here would be enjoyable.. Death would probably be more enjoyable." She grinned mischeviously, pressing her finger against her lips, taking a step towards the door. "Or not. what's going to make this fun, exactly?"

Laughing Arsis responded as he led them both outside, “since when hasn’t it been fun when it was just you and me?” there was a slight trace of mischievousness in his tone, it was one of the few times he could get away teasing Sanya. Walking with Sanya he added, “who knows maybe we’ll find a pack of coyotes or thieves to beat up!” As he walked with sanya he went to get a couple of horses ready for their patrol. Within a few minutes the two of them were riding out into the desert. As they rode Arsis asked, “So what do you think we should do after we’re done here… I’m ready to tell these scholars they only have a few more days protection until we get going…”

Sanya laughed, talking over the sound of wind and the horses. "What do they need protection against anyway?" She smiled, looking down at the ground below, obviously thinking of something else.. but it was hard to tell with the movement of her horse and her hair in the slight breeze."We've spent this long waiting for nothing, right?"

Arsis shrugged, “they need some peace of mind if anything else… that way they can focus on their work. Its better to be ready than to be caught off guard right?” As he looked at Sanya he could tell something else was on her mind, he hadn’t know her for years not to be able to tell. “I wouldn’t say we waited for nothing, at least we got some R and R…” even as he watched Sanya he admired her beauty. They were already pretty far from the camp; hills of sand blocked their view of where they started. As Arsis looked around he saw an oasis not too far off that they had been using for their water supply. “want to go to the oasis? We could spar or something, that'll be fun.” Arsis kept his eyes peeled while he asked her, he didn't want to run into anything unexpectedly.

Sanya looked off at the oasis, debating it for a moment. She frowned but nodded her head, "yeah... Ignoring the fact we're supposed to be patroling's always fun." Her frown disappeared as she looked back to Arsis. "But you didn't hear me say that, right?" With a light laugh, she brushed her hair with her hand, shaking a bit more of the dust from earlier off.

Ciel was lazily perched upon the top of one sand dune overlooking the oasis. Her pale blue hair flowed around her slender shoulders in the wind. She happened to be deep in thought when she suddenly sensed two mortals coming toward the oasis. A girl and a boy. She didn't move from the spot as they came closer and closer. She concealed a small smile. Her white dress was undirtied despite sitting in the sand. It sparkled with the sunlight. She sighed softly and stood. She hated laziness, even if it was her own. She debated for a moment whether to stay on the sand dune or head over to the shadows of the trees, but then again...
"Ah...let them come..." she spoke out loud to no one in particular. She sat back down with a lazy look at the sky above her. How lovely the wind felt...

Arsis knew it wouldn’t take much to convince Sanya, “you know patrolling was just my excuse to get out here alone with you right?” he grinned as he led the way, soon they were at the oasis, he jumped off his mount and let the stead go get a drink. He casually stretched his hand out to help Sanya off her horse too. The oasis was a simple body of water surrounded by a bunch of plants mostly palm trees and shrubs. There was a clearing, which led directly to the water with a rather large area to access it. They now stood in the clearing; Arsis reluctantly let go of her hand he briefly scouted around to make sure there weren’t any dangerous animals close by. After securing the area he walked back to Sanya, “so you ready to spar?”

Ciel enjoyed the wonderful feeling of the wind playing over her skin for several moments, her mind wandering elsewhere. Then, she stood gracefully and lightly walked down the sand dune, every movement resembling a beautiful dance, a dance like the wind. Arsis had finished his examination of the clearing so his attention was back on the girl. Perfect.
Her white dress resembled a ghost flitting among the palm trees. She stepped into the mild waters of the oasis, enjoying its cool touch, keeping one eye on the pair. Always...mortals would interrupt her lovely walks through the desert. But...then again, Ciel could see the love between the two. A strong bond. She smiled. Love between mortals was so quick and flitting because of their short life spans. A true shame. But then again, many were reuinited after death. She dug her toes into the cool muddy sand, her eyes closing with pleasure. Perhaps it would be a nice day after all.

Sanya slid her staff out of the horse's saddlebag before it departed, twirling it around as she waited for Arsis to finish. "You know," she thought out loud, a giggle was added for effect, " I kind of miss the ocean.. We should go somewhere along the coast.." Thinking it was just a mirage at first, Sanya didn't register the person on the dunes to be real. Until the girl walked down to the oasis, of course. She blinked, wondering how infact Arsis managed to miss her on his scouting mission. "Er, who's that..?"

Ciel sighed, but not loud enough for Sanya to hear. She stood, her graceful form fluid as the wind. She stepped closer to the pair, stopping in the shadow of an especially tall palm tree. "Hello..." she spoke out loud lightly with what she hoped was an innocent smile, which looked more like a grimace, as she tried to slide over the fact that she had appeared in the middle of a desert without notice.

Arsis’ attention drifted with Sanya's gaze to the girl in the oasis. He was confused himself on how he could miss someone like that. The fact that she practically appeared out of nowhere irked Arsis, something told him to be on his guard. He turned his body to regard the girl, his stance passive on the outside; his muscles ready to move into action though. Along with his caution came concern, was this girl somehow lost in the desert? However in this day and age Arsis would find such a story unlikely, he defensively walked between Sanya and the mysterious girl. “State your business stranger…”

"My business? I have none..." Ciel said with a genuine smile of amusement. She took strands of her pale blue hair and twirled it between her fingers, gazing back at Arsis. Somehow, beneath that innocent smile, there was a tinge of power. Something to be feared.

The look the strange girl gave him was more than enough to make him feel on edge. Thinking of no better solution he motioned with his hand behind his back to Sanya that they should leave. “If we have no business then we shall take our leave then…” He kept his guard up waiting for Sanya to bring his horse to him so he wouldn’t have to take his attention off the stranger.

Ciel laughed. How funny mortals could be. "Oh no, stay, please~" she quickly said. She stepped closer to the pair and she held her hands out in a gesture of peace. "I am unarmed and not dangerous at all. Why are you so cautious? You can easily overpower me..." she said, with an expression of hurt. Why on earth were mortals so easily swayed? She sighed and walked back over to the oasis waters and sat, burying her feet in the soft wet sand. "You can leave if you like..." she muttered grudgingly.

Sanya stood confused for a moment, wondering what exactly to do. She frowned as the girl walked away.. All dejected and sad.. "Arsis.. You don't have to be so mean!" A sucker for sad people, Sanya rushed past him to kneel next to the girl. "I'm sorry!" She said quickly, beaming, "I'm Sanya."

Ciel hid an amused laugh. "I'm...Selia." she said, making up the name on the spot. Ciel stood, her sad act successful. "Why are you two here? Are you travelers?" She brushed her hair out of her eyes. Ciel's dress remained spotless, despite sitting in the wet sand.

Arsis eyed the girl still weary. There had been plenty of times where he saw girls like this one swindle if not completely kill people. “We were out on patrol… we were just taking a break here…” he looked at Sanya he didn’t like that she ignored him to be friends with the girl.
