Shirl sat on a small stump at the base of the large forest. Her home was only a short walk away from the forest so whenever she felt overwhelmed, tired, or just needed to think she wandered in the forest.
As she looked up at the wide spread tree branhes she began to think of her life. It wasn't interesting. She was already 75 years old (elven) and she had done nothing with her life. Accordinng to her mother a young woman's goal in life should be to marry a respectable boy and raise a family.
Shirl however wanted bigger things. She wanted to travel Ula, see all of the sights. Ride a ship. Or at least get more than a few miles from her town. Most of all she wanted adventure. She dreamed herself into other lives, ones that she was never meant to have. Her latest thoughts were of a princess. She closed her eyes and let her mind wander.
Shirl stood at the balcony. She looked over the vast expansion of land that was her father's kingdom. She leaned against the railing and sighed. Her older brother, and future king had gone off to battle. He had sent back letters regularly. In his most recent one he wrote that he had found a suitable match for Shirl, a Prince in a small neighboring kingdom.
That Prince himself had delivered the letter. He had arrived on a large black horse followed by twenty or so armd foot soldiers. He was a pompous man. He was always talking of teh battles he had fought in and the adventures he had. It was unbearable to be in the same room with him. She felt like a prisenor in her own home.
Shirl knew that she could not stand this for much longer. Her laidies in waiting had quicly discouraged her plans of running away. She felt helpless, surrounded by a sea of people who thought they knew what was best for her. She closed her eyes and knew that she had to leave.
Shirl was quickly snapped out of her trance-like day dream by a rustling in the bushes, made by a large animal; most likely another elf. She stood up slowley, her think boots making little noise on the cold ground. Carefully she removed her hunting dagger from its sheath. It wasn't a very good weapon in hand to hand combat but nonetheless a she felt comforted by the small weapon. She gripped the hilt tightly and cautiosly called out "Who's there?"

A huge wolf leapt out of the underbrush. Its teeth weren't bared or even visible but its eyes were bloodred. Its fur was a darkgrayish-blue color like the heart of a storm. Its size alone was intimidating. Lupus was the same size as Shirl. Barely if she raised her head. But high for a wolf. Lupus turned her head to stare into the forest and then turned back to Shirl. Her silver earring caught the light of the sun, filtered through the trees. Her collar was studded with a deep ruby which shone with an inner light.
The great wolf sat before Shirl, her head at a regal tilt. Can you hear me, elf? A feminine voice spoke in Shirl's head, clear and hesitant.

Shirl froze. She had never been this close to an actual werewolf before. The most should could ever remember learning was that they could only be killed by a silver bullet.
Her breath caught in her throat as she saw the bing standing before her. She clasped her dagger and said, with as little stuttering as she could manage, "Perfectly, wolf."

Call me Lupus. And not exactly wolf. Werewolf. There is a difference. Lupus' tone was amused and her wolf form seemed to smile, pulling back the corners of her mouth to reveal daggerlike teeth.

((Dont werewolves only take their wolf form when there is a full moon??))
Shirl swallowed, she could feel her throat closing up as it always did when she was afraid. It might just have been her mind going insane but it felt as if the wolf was actually trying to be her friend. "Lupus," Shirl finally managed to croak out after a long pause. "My name is Shirl Ravenlock."

((xD not me~ bwaha. look at my profile/char. creation. lol))
Lupus realized then that Shirl was scared of her. How careless of me... Lupus transformed back into her elf form, her dark red tunic flowing out and reaching her knees. She smiled wolfishly. "I'm sorry if I startled you... Typical of me."

As Shirl saw Lupus she couldn't help but give a loud sigh of relief. She looked at teh elf standing in front of her and noticed that she had young features, not that you could really ever tell with an elf.
"Yes, I can't lie. My heart almost stoped beating when I saw you crouched in your werewolf form." Shirl said smiling slightly. "I was day dreamong and then you appeared out of no where. " Shirl sat back down on her stump and looked up at Lupus.
She still had some wolfish characteristics like her eyes and her smile but if you never saw her transform then you probably would never know she was a werewolf. "I wish my life was more exciting. Instead I'm stuck here." Shirl said wistfully.

Lupus smiled. "Then, create excitement in your life," she said, her advice coming from firsthand experience. "I...create my own excitement...wandering and testing my limits." Lupus said thoughtfully, still having the wolfish grin on her face. "It's the way I live..." Her grin faded away slightly as she studied Shirl.
"But...I'm sure there is a destiny out there for you. Some fate that awaits you out there. Living in Caladel all your life, leading a life that your ancestors have lived over and over again before you is not a path that I advise choosing..." She shrugged. "But what is one wolf's opinions to your own?" But...See what I can accomplish? An art so old and forgotten, even the people of the shadow have forgotten it...The art of telepathic speaking... But I'm sure that somewhere along your life, you can find a cause or a person worth fighting for...living for.... She laughed.

Shirl simply sighed again. She thought about what Lupus said, to follow your own path. It was wishful thinking. "Yes but where would I go? A young elf, barely a woman, wandering all over this giant desert we call our home. Where would I go alone?" She paused waiting Lupus' response.

Lupus smiled and turned, tracing the pattern of the bark upon a tree. "Well...if you would like. I wouldn't mind...if you'd like to travel with me..." She looked at Shirl with a side glance, through her long lashes. "I've always wondered how its like with company. At least when I'm in wolf form. It gets lonely sometimes, you know..." She laughed softly. "So, how about it? ...are we...what might you call it...a team?"

Shirl eyes widened at the offer. She wasn't sure if it was a joke or not. As she searched the wolf's eyes she had a feeling that it wasn't. She looked around at her surroundings. She knew them well. As a child she climbed the trees, as a teen she had helped at her small house, and now she looked after her brothers. She despised her life, and always wanted something excited. Now she was offered the chance to change it.
She looked at Lupus and then gestured at her surroundings. "Do you think I wouldn't wan't to leave this place? I'm in!" She said excitedly.

Lupus turned back to face Shirl, smiling, her wolfish side itching to run. "Well, this will be interesting indeed..." She turned and almost indicated that they should leave, but stopped mid-gesture. She had forgotten after such a long time... "Don't you have a family to get back to? A home?" She studied Shirl's face, a trace of concern in her expression.

"Well if you would be so kind to come back to my house I can politly tell them that my friend, you, is off to visit your grandmother and asked me to come along. I have actually done that before but I was really going to visit my friends grandmother." Shirl stood up and strechd her back a bit. "My mom will probably feed us, pack a few clothes and then we could be on our way." Shirl paused a moment and said. "Or we could take the faster approach and just leave them a note saying I left to, I dunno 'find myself.' "

"Well, it would be quite sudden either way. But...you've probably wanted to leave for a long time now..." Lupus thought a moment. "I'm not sure about you...but I'm an impatient person..." She laughed. "I'd pick the latter."
She transformed back into a wolf. It was becoming easier to trasform in daylight, though the sun blinded her eyes and dulled her senses, they were still better than any other human or elf. Get on. It's time to pay a visit to your house. Her tone was amused, as if she were holding back a smile. It doesnt' matter whether or not you tell your folks in person, but I suggest saying goodbye in person. Now that I think of it... I...didn't not have time to say goodbye to my brother...and now I never will. A sad thing to never see someone again. So I suggest talking in person. Not that your life will be endangered as long as I'm protecting you.. she assured. But, just to be safely assured... Her tone was a little saddened by the tragic memories of her family that came to resurface. She shook her head, licking her muzzle, gesturing to get on her back. She lay on the ground to make it easier for Shirl to climb on.

((Sorry for the belated reply *blames highschool*))
Shirl sighed and looked at the direction of her home. "Your right," She said. "I owe them some explination." Shirl walked over to where Lupus was crouching and shook slightly. It wasn't every day you rode on a werewolf. Shirl climbed gingerly onto Lupus' back and swalled a few times. "Okay, lets go." She said after a pause.

((xD lol. i knww what you mean~ ...from first-hand experience. xDD))
Lupus smiled. Should she go easy for Shirl's first time riding a huge beasty like herself or should she run, fast and daring. She took a moment's pause to decide and sprang, her paws pounding the ground. Hold tight, little one, she said with obvious pleasure. She wasn't much for taking it easy the first time around.
She slowed to a trot, her muzzle trained onto the ground. So, that was the general direction. Then, before Shirl could even catch her breath, Lupus was off again. She came to the house three minutes later after several stops to pick up the scent. She crouched to the ground for Shirl to get off. We have arrived... Her tone was happy...that someone could share her exhilarated feeling of running faster than the wind.

Shirl stifeled a scream as Lupus took off at full speed. When she slowed down she barely had time to catch her breath before Lupus took off again at full speed.
When they arrived at her house she hopped off the werewolf's back happy to be on land again. Even though she had been scared out of her wits Shirl wore a huge grin. "That was incredible." She said happily. Her face paled at the sight of her large cottage house. "What do you think I should say to them?" Shirl said nervously.

Lupus changed back to human form, her brow wrinkled in thought. "I don't know," she shrugged, smiling with that wolfish smile she always had. "Try along the lines of: I'm leaving you but don't be sad because I'm not sad and I will be learning of the world through first-hand experience." She laughed. "Although, never having a lot of time with parents, I'm not too sure if my explanation will work..." A teasing grin appeared on her face.
