Llyra had ventured far into the old remains of a once grand metropolis built by the elves. Her bag laid sprawled beside her where she sat taking apart what seemed to be a computer. Her black hair was tied into a ponytail that hung down her back. Her eyes were narrowed and she was frowning, making her seem less friendly by the second. She had taken the straps off of her baggy overalls and tied them around her waist as makeshift pants. Underneath she wore a dark red tanktop.
"Uhrmm..." she muttered, her green and gold eyes focused intently on the microchip that she held in her hand. She had been taking apart an old door lock running on magnitechnology. She snaked one hand into her bag to pull out what looked like a small thin gun. Setting the chip aside upon the straw mat that she was sitting on, she flipped a switch on the gun, activating a thin red laser beam. She concentrated and cut out the lock mechanism with expert handling.
It was strange to find a human so deep in the old remains of a decaying metropolis. But one of Llyra's most favorite hobbies would have to include venturing into the metropolis. Her inventing brain found something new to work with every time she explored the old and almost mystic ruins. The technology that the elves had used here was advanced and based on magnitechnology, a system that humans had just began to explore.

Following footsteps in the sand, Anmute and Allerlet ventured into the Metropolis. They studied the scripture and technology, taking notes on bits of parchment. What they needed would not be all in this place, but it could give them a lead.
Continuing through the Ruins, they moved quickly and quietly. Once they reached a room, they wrote down everything that seemed important. They continued through, until Anmute looked into the next chamber, in which he saw Llyra. Allerlet was going to head in, but he pulled her back. He was careful not to cut her with his gauntlets.
"A human. Seems harmless enough. Should we go a different way? You know how they can be... Curious." Anmute whispered to Allerlet. Allerlet pushed him slightly. "Don't say that! Let us go up to her and ask what she knows. More information could be useful. Besides, if she does ask questions, we will be vague with our answers." Allerlet mumbled.

Llyra's head snapped up as she heard the quiet whispers. Her concentration slipped and the lock fell onto the sandy ground. She cursed silently and picked it up with delicate handling, blowing off the dust softly.
"Who's there?" Llyra called out. Her voice was cautious and clear. The last time she'd found someone crawling about the mines, it had been a crazy old man who was clearly out of his mind in his dehydrated state. She had learned to be careful with strangers since then. She slowly put down the lock on the straw mat and flipped the laser switch off.

Anmute and Allerlet looked at each other. Anmute shrugged his shoulders, and they walked into the room together. Allerlet lined her arm with Anmute's.
"Hello there. My name is Anmute, and this is my Fiancé, Allerlet." Anmute said. Allerlet smiled. "We're scholars, investigating these ruins. Do you happen to know anything about this place?" She lied. Allerlet looked down at the items that Llyra had. It was all very strange to her.

Llyra smiled. "I know a lot about this old metropolis, but then again, it depends on what you would like to find out..." She stood, setting the door lock down.
"I'm Llyra," she said with a nod and extended one hand to shake.

Anmute looked down at his claw gauntlets. He just nodded his head to Llyra. Allerlet shook Llyra's hand.
"Well, we're looking for the history of these ruins. Things like how it was started, and more importantly, what was the cause of its decline." Anmute said. Allerlet nodded her head. "Do you know how to translate the scripture on the walls of these ruins? We've been searching for someone who can."

Llyra shook her head. "I can't translate them but I know that to translate them, you need someone who's fluent in the old Elvish language," she said, withdrawing her hand to run it over the runes. "Sometimes, when there's writing on the the old devices and such, I get it translated with help of an old friend, Valandil. He's fluent in most languages. And then, there's the dwarves and the elves that hide in the forest...I'm sure both have many people fluent in old Elvish."
She gave a short laugh. "I'm not sure of the exact decline of these ruins but it does have something to do with the withdrawal of the elves..."

"The withdrawal of the Elves..." Allerlet mumbled. Anmute walked over to the door, observing the technology. He did not understand it. "Interesting design... As if to keep out something," Anmute ran an edge from a claw down the side of the door, leaving a large scratch, "And it was strong? Doesn't appear to be able keep out somethings..." He looked back at Allerlet, who then swiftly walked up to him and pulled him away from the door. "Dont give away our secret..." She whispered into his ear.

Llyra watched Allerlet, curiosity bubbling under a calm composure. Secret? Intruiging...
"Please, don't harm the ruins here," Llyra said with a cold smile. "And the door is much more than it looks like..." Her tone became less menacing. "It can keep out much more that you think it might. This lock and the door were designed to keep out any kind of intruder..." She looked at the scratch on the door and ran one finger down its length. It was already lessening and faded away completely after a moment. The wonders of elvish technology.

"Any kind of intruder?" Anmute walked back up to the door. The room was dark enough to be shadowed. His body turned into black, and he faded into the shadows. He reemerged from the other side of the door, tapping his gauntlets on the door for Llyra to hear.
Allerlet was shocked at what he had done. Why would he do that? "Anmute! Come back here!" She called. A body came out of the shadows. Anmute smiled. "I don't think this door would block any intruder." Anmute said. Allerlet slapped the back of his head. "You! You could give away our identities!" She yelled, forgetting that Llyra was standing right next to them.

Llyra looked on, surprised. "You're...Duisternis-kin..." she murmured out loud. She had never met one in person. But there were rumors...and Llyra had an interest for anything of the unknown.

Allerlet sighed. "Yes. We ware the Duisternis-Kin who have been tainted by the light. Light Duisternis-Kin. Our bodies being corrupted my light, we are closer to it than any other Duisteris-Kin. It's not all that bad really. We're quite used to it." Allerlet took Anmute's arm. "The Duisternis-Kin have not left the plane of shadow in over one hundred years... Strange, why we are out now?" Anmute said.

Llyra smiled. "That's the question I was just about to ask you two." Her smile deepened, curiosity growing. "So, then why exactly are the Duisternis-kin leaving their home when they haven't bothered for over a century?" She leaned against the door, her eyes watchful, arms crossed, and a faint smile still visible through her mask of indifference that hid the unquenchable thirst for all knowledge unknown to her.

"Yes, I do wonder why the shadow folk would just randomly leave their happy home. What could possibly be the reason?" Anmute turned his head to Allerlet and smiled. Allerlet tilted her head in curiosity. "Well, for whatever reason, it must be pretty important." She leaned her head on Anmute shoulder, and smiled at Llyra.

Llyra smiled back, but no humor reached her eyes. "And I suppose that I shouldn't raise my hopes that a petty little human such as I won't be let into such a big secret?" Her eyes slid from Anmute to Allerlet, curiosity growing under her light composure. Useful information was priceless.

Anmute shook his head. Allerlet let out a soft giggle "It wouldn't be much of a secret if we were to tell you. Maybe if we see you again, we can tell you a little bit more about whats going on." "But for now, it is good bye." Their bodies became black, and faded into the shadow of the room, leaving Llyra alone in the emptiness of the ruin.
They reappeared at the entrance of the metropolis, walking out into the bright sun. "Now, who were we supposed to find? A Mr. Valandil?" "Yes, I suppose we should start to look for him. He could be very useful with translating this scripture." They walked off together into the heat of the desert.

Llyra started to call after them, "Wait..." but they had already disappeared by the time the word left her mouth. She lowered her outstreched hand after a moment, a slight frown creasing her features. She sat slowly back on the straw mat but her thoughts were too preoccupied to concentrate on her work.
She gave up after a minute of trying to focus on the lock and realizing that she was trying to cut out an important metallic screw. She sighed and wrapped up the lock and all the other equipment that she had with her. She rolled up the straw mat and crammed it into her bag. Llyra stood up, stretching her legs and fluidly pulling out the cord that held back her hair and slipped it over her wrist.
She stalked out of the abandoned parts of the metropolis, past the warning signs that she had ignored countless times and out into the hustle of humans. Time to get back to her favorite hideaway.
